The CBT Wigan – Compulsory Basic Training is a programme of instruction, safe practice and assessment for new riders wanting to ride a scooter or geared motorcycle.
By law it must be taken by any new rider before they ride on the road using ‘L’ plates.
You have to be at least 16 years old to ride a 49 cc machine and 17 years old to ride a 125 cc scooter/motorcycle. Don’t worry if you have never ridden before, as the CBT course is aimed at complete novices with no experience at all.
We will take you through all elements of the course at your own pace.
There is no time limit and no test at the end of the course.
Usually a CBT Wigan – Compulsory Basic Training course will take a full day.
However the pace is set by the ability of the student so it could take less time, on the other hand it could take more. Therefore the focus on the course is to get you on the road safely, confidently and knowledgably.
You will need your photo card driving licence/provisional licence AND a printout or screenshot of your driver record.
This can be found via the direct.gov website
Wear suitable clothing (we can provide helmets, jackets, gloves and waterproofs).
Also bring a packed lunch and you will need a basic understanding of the Highway Code and road signs.
Training starts at 8.00am for CBT (unless specified otherwise during booking)
Note – we lock the centre at 8.15am to commence training!
In this event you could lose your Training Fee.
CBT – Own Bike
You may use your own bike for CBT training.
Please ensure that its legal, has tax disc displayed and has L-plates fitted.
We will need to see your insurance and Mot certificates.
Remember that it would be an offence to ride on the public road to us if you without a current CBT so you will need to arrange a collection/delivery at your expense.
If you fail to bring your documents it might possible to hire one of our vehicles on the day, if this is not possible a rebooking fee would apply.
If you want to use your own big bike for DAS training please contact us to make arrangements.
